The Hangover Movie – Does This Stuff Really Happen?

The Hangover is a comedy that hit the big screen in 2009 with much success. Two other Hangover movies have been created, with the third to be released in May 2013. The story line is pretty common—a group of buddies is headed to Las Vegas for a bachelor party where hijinks ensue.

The greatness of The Hangover is found in how the movie unfolds. Instead of going through the evening as the guys get in and out of trouble, the audience watches as the men try to piece together the events of the previous evening and find the missing groom. Hijinks still ensue, so it’s all good.

All in all, the guys managed to have a wild evening thanks to the effects of Ruphylin (the date-rape drug) and many other substances. Such events include a stolen tiger, a marriage to a stripper/hooker, a misplaced baby, a kidnapping or two, and a self-performed tooth extraction. The movie begs the question of whether or not such things really happen in real life. The answer is that they certainly do, just not all at the same time.

Is it true ‘What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas?’

There is no question that Las Vegas has all the qualities needed to allow a group of people to have a wild night or two. There’s gambling, alcohol, and a lot of drugs floating around in The City of Vice. While prostitution is not legal in the limits of Sin City, there are a lot of hookers operating illegally in the city. Lastly, don’t forget that the Mob and other gangs certainly have ties to The City in the Desert.

The slogan of ‘What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas’ denotes the high likelihood of events occurring that you would not want others to know about. For instance, marrying a stripper who moonlights as a hooker is not something most people would post on their Facebook pages.
There are few other cities in the world that hold such promise of getting yourself and your friends into a jam. All things considered, the events in The Hangover series of movies are certainly possible, though not very probable.

Will roofies make you black out?

The drug that is given to the guys in The Hangover that causes their temporary amnesia over the past evening’s events is a real drug. One character slips it to the others with the belief that it is actually Ecstasy.

The drug’s street name is roofies, and it is also called the date-rape drug. It most certainly will make you black out and not remember what has happened for the last couple of hours or so. Obviously, such a drug is illegal and much more sinister than Ecstasy.

Luckily, none of the characters of the movie suffer any ill effects from the roofies when all is said and done. That fact is probably one of the least-likely points of the movie if you were comparing it to what would happen in real life.

Could you steal a tiger?

There are certainly many tigers in Las Vegas. Mostly they are there from Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden Habitat in The Mirage hotel, which houses a white tiger sanctuary. They used to do a whole act with the tigers, until Roy was badly mauled in 2003 by one of them, much to the public’s surprise.

There are other acts and such that use tigers, so it is possible that you could locate a tiger to steal in Las Vegas. However, it is highly unlikely that you would be successful in such an endeavor. The beasts weigh around 600 pounds and have sharp claws and teeth. It would be very hard to try to steal even an unconscious tiger without being seen or badly mauled.

Furthermore, in The Hangover, the guys don’t just steal any old tiger. They steal Mike Tyson’s tiger. Mike Tyson is a bit like a tiger in human form—600 pounds and sharp teeth. Stealing Mike Tyson’s tiger would involve an entirely different level of danger altogether.

Could you marry a stripper/hooker?

Las Vegas is well known for its Ladies of the Night. Whether they are swinging on a pole or turning tricks, Vegas certainly has a high proportion of Scarlet Women.

Sin City also has a high number of wedding chapels – 100’s of them to be exact. Most are open 24 hours a day, and there is no blood test requirement or waiting time laws in Las Vegas (called a cooling-down period) between filing for a marriage license and when the actual event can take place. You do still have to apply for a marriage license with Clark County for your wedding to be legal, however.

So it is very possible that you could go to Las Vegas and get married. It is also nearly as likely that you could find a stripper/hooker to get married to. There are a lot of them there.

Can you count cards in Vegas?

Another point in the movie has the guys winning $80,000 or so while gambling by counting cards. They need the money to pay a kidnapping ransom.

Card counting is considered cheating by the Las Vegas casinos. If you are suspected of doing it, the nicest thing that will happen to you is that you will be asked to leave. Forcefully.

The Hangover is one of the most popular movies of recent and while your man is in Vegas it certainly is understandable to worry. Fear not however as if he does any of the above you will probably never know anyway so best to just buy a copy of the 50 shades of grey and enjoy your quiet time.
